Deeplish Primary Academy

SEND

Deeplish Primary Academy is an inclusive school committed to providing a high quality education for all children. Our core principle is for all children to reach their full potential. It is paramount that all pupils develop self-confidence and a positive self-esteem. Therefore, we actively involve our children in a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum, which provides them with many opportunities for success. We endeavour to foster attainment in the basic standards of literacy and numeracy.

We recognise that all children have individual needs. The progress of all our children is closely monitored through regular assessment and evaluation of responses to teaching and learning. We aim to intervene quickly when concerns about progress occur. Consequently, those children who may have learning or behavioural difficulties, physical difficulties or giftedness will receive effective, well-founded interventions.

Through the use of Provision Maps and Pen Portraits, we aim to meet the needs of those pupils with additional educational needs. Regular meetings are key, where pupils, parents and teachers are involved in the target setting process. Our pupils are encouraged to develop metacognition strategies, which enable an independent, effective learner who knows how he/she learns best.

The SENCo is highly experienced in all areas of special educational needs and is available to assist teachers in formulating provision maps, pen portraits, setting targets, formulating strategies and interventions. We also have a Speech and Language Therapist, who delivers speech and language assessments and interventions.

At Deeplish Academy we work as a team to support each other, sharing ideas, best practice, resources and expertise. We aim to ensure that SEN provision is given equal status with other curriculum areas.
