‘Growing Great Learners’

Curriculum (ID 1039)

At Deeplish we have a broad and balanced curriculum that is relevant and prepares children for the next stage of their education.

Through our curriculum we aim to enable children to become confident, active and independent learners, ensuring that their mastery of the English language is promoted at all times to enable them to access the curriculum we provide in all its richness. We aim to promote pupils’ knowledge of the wider world and their expectations of being fully involved as active participants in it, engaged, enjoying their learning and their lives.

Our curriculum is based around a series of progressive skills, knowledge and vocabulary linked to the National Curriculum 2014. The skills, knowledge and vocabulary are mapped out across each year group and are taught to the children through a series of topics linked to a key text.

The topics are chosen to give children the knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live whilst also reflecting the differing backgrounds that the children have come from. They are planned out to build a developing picture of the world in which they live at an age appropriate level.

We strive to ensure that the children all RESPECT everyone regardless of background, race, religion gender or sexual orientation.

Our curriculum is underpinned by ten key concepts. You can see how the ten concepts are woven into our curriculum in the document below.

Concept Road Maps

We believe that the children's learning will be reinforced and brought to life with 'outdoor' and 'real' experiences. Our various trips and visits are detailed in the following documents.
