Computing

All pupils at Deeplish have the right to have rich, deep learning experiences that incorporate all aspects of computing. With technology playing such a significant role in society today, we believe that ‘Computational Thinking’ is a skill that children must be taught at a level suitable for the future workplace, so that they are able to participate effectively and safely in this digital world. Pupils will:

  • Understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • Analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • Evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
  • Be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Our Computing curriculum is centred on children knowing how to access technology around them, but, fundamentally, how to keep safe and be always respectful. We strive to ensure that our pupils can demonstrate resilience, resourcefulness, reflectiveness to be successful learners.
At Deeplish we use Purple Mash Computing scheme. This aims to instil a sense of enjoyment around using technology and to develop pupils’ appreciation of its capabilities and the opportunities technology offers to create, manage, organise and collaborate.
Through our curriculum, we intend for pupils not only to be digitally competent and have a range of transferable skills at a suitable level for the future workplace, but also to be responsible online citizens.

The scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of Key Stage expectations outlined in the National Curriculum.
