At Deeplish Primary Academy, we aim to develop pupils’ abilities within an integrated programme of Speaking & Listening, Reading & Writing.
Concerning Speaking and Listening, our aims are for children to be able to:
At Deeplish, the four strands of Speaking and Listening: Speaking; Listening; Group Discussion and Interaction, and Drama permeate the whole curriculum. Interactive teaching strategies are used to engage all pupils during lessons in order to raise reading and writing standards and children are taught to develop effective communication skills in readiness for later life. In addition, children’s first language is always valued and children are encouraged to build on the skills and knowledge that they bring with them from home.
The use of correct Standard English is given a high priority in school and all staff use every opportunity to both model the correct use of Standard English and rectify children’s misconceptions as they occur.
