At Deeplish Primary Academy, all staff recognise the importance of reading, whether it be reading for pleasure or to enable children to fully access all aspects of the curriculum.
Therefore all children in our academy are entitled to an education which gives high priority to the development of reading skills, both as a means of raising achievement as well as enabling children to become confident and independent learners.
At Deeplish, a wide variety of strategies are employed to help children read for meaning and make sense of the written text. A positive attitude towards reading is also encouraged to promote the concept of reading as a life-long pleasure.
Opportunities are therefore provided for:
- Shared, Reciprocal, Independent and Individual reading – where all books have been carefully organised into ability levels
- Wider reading, including school library, book corners and class novels
- Home Reading Links – all children are provided with a reading book at their own reading ability and are expected to read at home with parents contributing to home/school reading records. We would therefore encourage parents to read with your children as often as possible to enable them to make good progress with this vital skill.
